About this collection

The Archivo Histórico del Estado de Durango (AHDE), Sala Colonial, holds the administrative, judicial, and ecclesiastical records of Nueva Vizcaya — the colonial province that encompassed modern Durango, Chihuahua, and parts of Sinaloa and Zacatecas. The collection spans from the earliest Spanish settlement through the 19th century.

Major series include civil and criminal court proceedings (Juzgado Civil and Juzgado Criminal), treasury accounts (Ingresos, Egresos, Corte de Caja), mining records (Minas), testaments (Testamentos), military rosters (Militar), and ecclesiastical licences (Clero).

This finding aid is derived from the AHDE catalog database. Descriptions are in Spanish. 1,590 of 2,524 records have digitized images available to view directly from this index.
